Kokura Castle, originally built in 1602 by Tadaoki Hosokawa, was reconstructed in 1959. It features a unique "Kara-zukuri" style, where the fifth floor is larger than the fourth, which was a rare design in Japan at the time. The castle is also notable for its stone walls, built using the "Nozura-zumi" method, which involves stacking uncut stones.

Inside the castle, a large theater showcases the history of Kokura Castle, and an observation area offers a 360-degree view of the city of Kokura.
