Kumamoto Castle is one of Japan's most famous castles, built in 1607 by Kiyomasa Kato. The castle was significantly damaged by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. However, as a symbol of recovery, restoration work was prioritized, and the castle was fully restored in March 2021.

The main keep has an exterior of three layers and consists of six above-ground floors and one basement level. From the top floor, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Kumamoto City and the distant Aso mountain range.
