Takachiho Shrine

Takachiho Shrine was founded around 1,900 years ago and serves as the head shrine of the 88 shrines in the Takachiho region. The shrine features the "Married Cedars" (Meoto Sugi), two large cedar trees whose roots are intertwined, symbolizing a harmonious marriage. It also has unique iron komainu (guardian lion-dog statues), designated as an Important Cultural Property by the Japanese government. The shrine is famous for its nightly Kagura dance performances, which reenact myths and legends.
